This is where it starts-at the local level. Young voters don't realize that and when I have spoken to them, really don't bother with local elections. This needs to change right away.
I think it would be important to ask them directly what would get their attention? What is important to them locally? Spokespersons they relate to and admire. They are on news apps for the iPhones, Twitter, TikTok, ads on SiriusXM, ads for younger shows that have to be seen like on Hulu- they need to tell us how we can reach them.
We really have to pay attention to who is running for school boards these days. Not all candidates are concerned for the education of our children. They promote the exclusion of free thinking. We don't want our schools filled with Stepford Kids.
I'll admit I'm a huge fan of history, especially that involving the Greatest Generation. They won the war, came home and built America and lead to the great expansion of the middle class. My generation was the beneficiary of the sacrifices, determination and grit of the GG. When I see acceptance of white nationalism, anti-semitism, gun violence and divisive, hateful rhetoric being spewed by politicians and certain media on a daily basis it is frightening. I fear that my grandchildren will find a much different America than the one I grew up in.
The good news is that librarians through the years have always stood for intellectual freedom. There have been tables at local libraries with tables of books:" These books have been banned, read them." and, just to say, many of them have been books i have used when teaching literature. Part of the Fascist handbook is to ban and burn what would allow people to think critically and thoughtfully about our world.
FYI, Saratoga Springs artist C.A.M. Cameron is currently creating a "banned book box" via which area residents will be encouraged to donate & exchange at-risk works. The box will reside in front of the historic folk venue Caffe Lena on Phila Street after its dedication later this summer. To donate at-risk pieces in the interim, contact local resident Linda LeTendre via Faceook, or call the Caffe...

You are so right. I wonder if people would be against a civics class in high school these days too.
We already have them. The info needs to go through the social media young people access.
So how do we reach them?

So scary!

I fear for the next generation as well.
We certainly have our hands full. And I applaud Ken Tingsley for highlighting the "take back our schools" candidates in our area.
And, yes, book banning is next.
