There are no depths Rep Elise will not plumb. Maybe she’ll implode?

Considering the consistent reporting on the legal problems facing Trump, I don’t see how she sees him as her future. But then again, she went to Harvard and I did not.

‘Tis a puzzlement’ for sure.

it is time for all thinking people to start pushing for investigations of #pos_tefanik.

From her lies, to her possible funding of Jan6 insurecton to her insider trading.. she never explains how in three years he went from wealth of $150,000 (mainly a condo) to being a millionaire

You are bringing forth extremely important topics, thank you.

And sometimes controversial.

My Dad died of pancreatic cancer at 86. It took him three months to die in hospice, because, apart from the cancer, his body was very strong and fit (if that makes sense). He suffered terribly. Dad would probably not have chosen suicide, it would have gone against his faith, but seeing what my Dad went through, I think, assisted suicide should definitely be an option on the table for people.

Expand full comment

That is the key point. It should be an option. And each individual has to decide for themselves.

My sister knew her cancer would eventually kill her. She convinced her doctor to write the prescription (that took a while) for that lethal dose of medication allowed by Colorado law. She found a pharmacy to fill the prescription (not all pharmacies would) and put it in her refrigerator until she would decide to use it. Her life continued with her continuing her fight against her cancer and in between enjoying her friends and family when she was finally told there were no more treatments. She went into a peaceful hospice setting for her last days. After then making a point to say good-bye to her friends and family, she decided it was time to go back home and take the prescription but found she physically was unable to swallow the quantity of liquid required to make the process work - and there is no plan B under Colorado law. She had no option except to swallow it herself with her own hand and as a result of her cancer, she could not do this. She then tried to stop eating and drinking for 4 days (she had not been eating anything but watermelon for 2 weeks) but this did not work either. Five days later she died gasping desperately for that last breath. Any law we come up with to allow MAID in New York State has to allow a 2nd party to help. Perhaps Colorado law had good intentions but the law was not good enough to help my sister. To require the dying person to administer the dose by themselves does not work.

That is a very sad story. I'm sorry for what your sister and you went through.

Thank you - she (and I) never foresaw this complication and I want it out there so New York State can get it right.

Thought provoking column today on all topics. Death with dignity is most definitely needed in NY, for those who wish to use it. For those who are against it, no one is forcing it on you. Let everyone make their own decisions.

Censure is now a nasty political tactic being used for retaliation. So many politicians have absolutely NO ethics, including the horrible person who represents us. Please vote to defeat Stefanik!

And I read today that Boebert wants to impeach Biden for his immigration policy. Talk about a bridge too far. And apparently, recent tweaks to the policy have helped at the southern border.

Expand full comment

And let's take a moment and point out that we wee on the brink of immigration reform.. that would have solved our border problems and the republicans rejected it

Last I checked bobo and #pos_tefanik are both republicans

“Please vote to defeat Stefanik!”

You might consider making sure to register as a Republican in order to vote in the primary next year for Jill Lochner. I’ve become convinced that electing a Democrat upstate is a bridge too far. I’m willing to settle for a better Republican.

Elise’s little spokesweasel has slammed Jill as a neverTrumper, Liz Cheney acolyte and, hilariously, a grifter. 🤣 Elise is one of the biggest money grubbers in Congress.

Anyway, something to maybe consider.

We are more compassionate with our pets than with our people when it comes to dying. Compassion and Choices is a non- profit organization that I have followed and contributed to for many years. They have a wonderful publication and I think not only for ourselves but for our loved ones, we should be allowed to die with dignity and no pain. As for the censorship of Adam Aschoff, I’m disgusted by the hypocrisy of the GOP. Nothing new there though. It seems that if they have the majority, they can accuse anyone of doing what they have done a million fold and act appalled at the behavior when it is actually them that abused their power.

My sympathy that your mother had to suffer so much before passing. We’re lucky to have neighbors like Vermont to set a good example for us.

I’m sure Adam Schiff is grateful for the campaign contribution House Republicans gave him in his effort to be elected to the US Senate where they will only be admitted as spectators. The hypocrisy of censure over his actions is particularly hilarious since two of the Weird Sisters nearly came to blows over whose impeachment bill of Biden was better. Elise, I guess, would be the third sister. Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble!

OMG. I can't imagine 2 things, first, God bless her, putting her through such a needless & painful way to go and secondly you and your family to have to witness such a horrendous scene, especially flesh & blood - God bless her and your family to have to witness such a thing when there are safe &, I understand, painless solutions. Thank you for sharing that story Ken. I was born & raised in Burlington VT and am proud of some of the very small State's independent ways of handling situations such as that one.

It sticks with you.I had never written about my mom’s death before. What struck me most of all was that it was not peaceful. It was the opposite.

It would be nice for you (Ken) to step away from your purely objective stance of a reporter.

That is, we need a solution. Sometimes journalism can be activist.. not like fox news which is propaganda, and not by opinion pieces, or even what you do here by pointing out facts. but by moving people with solutions and call to action.

What #pos_tefanik does is on the cutting edge of lying, dishonesty and corruption.

{Let me point out I do not know what that cause to action is or how we enact a solution.}

It is hard to put into perspective the hypocrisy of the two-face #pos_tefanik criticizing Shift for fund raising off of the crimes of hmpy trympy, while she is doing the exact same thing.

There are so many things our government needs to do.. and much related to change.

• #pos_tefanik became a millionaire in the three years, now a multi-millionaire. It is transparent she did it by investing in insider trading. Using the information he gains from her position on various committees. Insider trading is illegal, but for our congress.

• #pos-tefanik uses lax campaign laws (citizens united) to sell her votes to the highest bidder.

• not just for raising money, but she literally meets with her superpacs

she met with Henry Vanderminden President at Telescope Casual Furniture

https://www.linkedin.com/in/henry-vanderminden-70781b10/

who along with regular donations, also donates to superpacs (https://www.fec.gov/data/receipts/?data_type=processed&contributor_name=Vanderminden%2C+henry) and those funds go to #pos_tefanik.

Stopping there

Time to cover #pos_tefanik as the corrupt, criminal raging lunatic that she is.

Time to accept the mentally short people who follow her are not going to change, they are not capable.. either they aren't smart enough to understand facts and reality... or they choose to blindly ignore them

Over the past five years we have seen a dramatic change in how many people perceived the reporting by the media, even small newspapers like The Post-Star. In the past, if a politician lied that might be enough to sink them. Now if a media organization points out a lie, it is being political. So many seem to trust politicians rather than journalists who have nothing to gain - not TV personalities - but regular print reporters. Rep. Stefanik’s lies are well documented and well know within in the district, yet she keeps getting elected. I also am at a loss for a solution.

Expand full comment

disagree

Not with what you say, but the actions you suggest.

"Rep. Stefanik’s lies are well documented and well know within in the district,"

This is not true. All you have to do is go to her facebook page and you will see these folks are not able to comprehend reality. Acknowledge you need to put facts before the willingly ignorant, even if they will not believe it. You know the saying: “democracy dies in darkness” It must be added #pos_tefanik’s lies flourishes in her unchecked lies

-----

I would say the are not well documented.

For example: saying that each of her lies has at some point been called out might be true... but how often have all the lies been called out, not in just one lie in one article, but in several articles with many of her lies.

I dare say the Post-Star has called out her lies more than the Watertown Daily Times.. But neither call her out enough, or even close to the number of times that she lies. Infact there is some weeklies (Sun community as an example) run her press releases unchecked ---> as if they are fact. Many many newspapers run her lies, unchecked

I can see where in many articles and often, a newspaper could (OFTEN) write:

"

#pos_tefanik says 'x', but not only is that not true, all the pretense of her comments that lead to her assessment are wrong.

"

I think in the case of someone like #pos_tefanik or her cohort george santos, once a month a newspaper could list there lies. Part because once one of her lies is published, she uses those articles as proof she is telling the truth.

Another example.. NCPR will pat itself on two articles calling out #pos_tefanik and her lies

https://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/45241/20220125/here-are-the-questions-we-want-to-ask-rep-stefanik-about-trump-s-baseless-election-claims

(one and a half years old)

https://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/37057/20180920/in-age-of-social-media-stefanik-keeps-north-country-press-at-arm-s-length

(two and a half years old)

Two articles in three years is not holding #pos_tefanik accountable when she lies.

There are ways the media could help, but does not (and this is for all politicians):

• Refuse to publish press releases, until she starts answering inquiries from the media

• NEVER publish a press release that contains false information

• NEVER publish an advertisement that contains false information

Do what is truly balanced.. if #pos_stefanik grandstands (parades a photo op with a soldier), do not publish it, unless you balance with Jill Lochner and any Democrat that maybe running against her.. or a statement from the Democrat Party.

Hi Ken, first-time long-time

Remember when you wrote about the Adirondack Line reopening a few months ago?
