Story recounts week-long, 2,000-mile trek by father and son
In November 2020 - during the second wave of the pandemic - I embarked on a 2,000-mile road trip to San Antonio, Texas. Remember this was still months before a vaccine had been developed.
My son had finished grad school the previous spring and had landed a job with the National Park Service. We packed some furniture into a rental truck here at home and gathered more at a storage facility from his college apartment before embarking on our trip to Texas.
It was going to be father and son together for 30 hours in the car.
I’ll never forget our first stop in Altoona, Pa. only to see the hotel surrounded by hundreds of cars. The hotel was a Covid testing site that had opened the day before.
There was anxiety in the air.
I filed daily dispatches on my Facebook page during the trip that many of you might have seen. Since then, I have put it together in a 3,000-word story I hope will be published as part of collection of short stories by Something or Other Publishing (it published my first book.)
It is called “Moving Day.”
What I’m asking each of you is to consider voting for my story so that it will appear in the collection. You just need to click on the link, type in your email address and vote. You are under no obligation after that.
