...his changes to and destruction of the People's House, desecration of the Kennedy Center, claiming two beautiful human beings (murdered by the federal government) were "domestic terrorists," attempts to erase, and re-write, history, et cetera- reminds me of a dog, for instance [in this case, a rabid one], urinating all-over everything: to mark [what it thinks is] its property.* / [ *absolutely no disrespect intended (to dogs) ]...

Trump is hellbent on remaking/destroying America to reflect his extremist ideologies and fascist tendencies. He filled his administration with the likes of Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem. One only needs to see the words and propaganda posters that they and other Trump administration members post on X that embraces the images and slogans used during Nazi Germany. Their hate of "the other" just seeps out from ever pore of theirs.

Stefanik could care less about her constituents concerns, she's busy posting on "delivering results", praising Tom Homan, a new $1 coin, Mozart's birthday and how she "just heard a plow go by this morning outside our house on our very rural road in Saratoga County".

Still, though, not one peep from her about Trump's paramilitary police force terrorizing communities and killing American citizens.

StefaniQ is irrelevant these days, even to MAGAts, so she doesn't even pretend to be useful as she laughs her way to the bank. The plow remark reminds me of another sociopath who held that Congressional seat, Gerald "Jerry" Solomon, who famously procured an Uzi (I believe) for his wife because she lived in the "wilds of the North Country," if one considers North Road in the then-most expensive neighborhood of Qbury a battleground for murderous criminals. Solomon also challenged a Kennedy to duke it out while debating on the House floor. And let's not forget Solomon would brag how he was a Korean conflict Marine veteran until he was corrected by an enterprising reporter who found he was a Korean-ERA veteran who never left the U.S. And then Mr. Virtuous was constantly linked to allegedly having other children through extramarital affairs that he constantly denied. Reporters/editors in a certain newsroom would always refer to them as "Jerry's kids" in honor of Jerry Lewis' telethon taking place at the same time. Times have changed, sociopaths remain the same.

All true about Solomon. And constituents kept electing him.

I left out the stories about Solomon's actual family and their escapades.

Washington’s relationship with enslaved people is itself worthy of study, as is the ways in which his “property” ran — 500 slaves over his lifetime. Mount Vernon has earnestly tried to reflect the enormous contributions these workers made to Washington’s success. Monticello? Maybe not so much, though it’s been a few years since my last visit.

It’s crime to remove anything from a public place, defacing a historic site in the desire to obfuscate the truth within the shadow of Independence Hall.

Trump’s entire world view is warped, as he cuddles with dictators. The president’s desired to rewrite the American narrative is a disgrace.

Visited Monticello a couple years ago and they have made great progress in addressing the slavery story.

hopefully that continues

I have read several books on our founding fathers and it is clear they were well aware of the immorality of slavery (especially John Quincy Adams 6th U.S. President)

BUT

like so many who would come later and treat employees like slaves.. PROFIT was more important than humanity...

People who think nothing is wrong with capitalism also think slavery wasn't so bad

melania... he perfect egomaniac for an egomaniac.. There have been several stories how, because you can reserve tickets online and see if people are going to movies, that no one is going to her movie.. and likely hmpy trmPEDOphile slept through it.

I also noticed on the description of the movie, it says "Staring Melania Trump and Donald Trump." Why do I think that someone will be complaining about not winning an Oscar next year.

thanks for the chuckle!

with all the bonus substacks, Will Doolittle and guest columnists .. Front Page is starting to look like a daily*

You probably know this.. but the Legacy Museum, WWII Museum in (N.O.) and the Whitney Plantation do not take federal (or state I think) dollars which allows them to be independent.. and tell the truth

*reminds me that when small town dailies and weeklies shrink.. in size or frequency.. there is a lot of news left out

Especially when you cover three counties and three dozen local communities.

When I visit the library I will look at the adk emptyprize (Aaron Marbone is probably one of the best writers in the North Country right now.. kind of tops in general) and realize often the paper is a couple stories and press releases*

Interesting to note that the NBC sitcom “The Paper” was cancelled after the fall season. It was inane and hardly worth watching.

Ken Tingley's avatar

I agree. It made newspaper reporters - and editors - look stupid. Some of the smartet people I know work at newspapers. Perhaps, The Last American Newspaper might get some interest from Hollywood.

Trump wants to be king. He's a king, alright, king of chaos. Every day a different chaos. One year into his term, already exhausted. I don't expect the next president will straighten out this mess in four years and with the voting history in this country, they fire him and hire another MAGA. I grew up in the best of times, my grandchildren, however, we'll be handing over a country deeply in debt, rudderless, lawless, and polluted beyond repair. Feeling hopeless.

Before the history of the expansion of Fort Drum is erased, the Watertown City Clerk has this record: "1980-4, Watertown City Human Rights Commission chair - Roland Van Deusen." Much debate on Fort Drum Expansion. At least one influential local citizen expressed concern about "Low # of Black women to accommodate larger #s of Black men in Army, coming to town." Old enough to remember "Green Power" argument of civil rights movement I'd been involved in, I reactivated City Human Rights Commission, got the NY State Division of Human Rights to put small branch office in Watertown, embarked on local community education project to reduce tensions, stress huge positive impact on local 3 county economies of Fort Drum expansion. We know the rest.

I spent six months in a local nursing home and therapy center. The staff was excellent but overworked and handling multiple responsibilities. It was also obvious that it needed a larger budget but lacked revenue and was also a for-profit facility. I don't think that health care generally can be both highly effective and run for profit.

Ken Tingley's avatar

Nursing home industry basically bribed President Trump so there would be less staff. Unconsionable!
