Tingley to speak at historical society luncheon
“The Last American Newspaper” is due out in June
LAKE LUZERNE - Ken Tingley, retired editor of The Post-Star, will speaking about the future of newspapers when he addresses the 49th Annual Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society Birthday Luncheon on Saturday, May 22 at noon.
Tingley, who retired in 2020, will be the lunch speaker at the Long Horn Restaurant in Lake Luzerne.
Since retiring, Tingley has published a collection of his newspaper columns titled, “The Last American Editor.”
“When I put those columns together, I realized how much newspapers provide the historical context, not only for the events or our communities, but for the people who live and work there,” Tingley said. “Those stories now provide the foundation of our history for the past 20 years.”
Tingley will be addressing the past and future of newspapers in his address. His second book, “The Last American Newspaper,” will be out in June and is being published by McFarland Books. The book is a memoir of the people and stories that the Glens Falls newspaper covered while Tingley was editor. It shows the value of local journalism and how it has been eroded in recent years.
To attend the luncheon, you need to register by May 17 by calling Sue at (518) 403-4042.
“The Last American Editor” will be for sale at the event. “The Last American Newspaper” can be pre ordered at McFarland Books at: https://mcfarlandbooks.com/product/the-last-american-newspaper/
