Tingley to speak about future of newspapers at Crandall Library
Will Doolittle to moderate discussion on journalism
GLENS FALLS - Crandall Public Library will be holding a “Conversation with Ken Tingley” on Tuesday, May 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Tingley, editor of The Post-Star for 21 years, retired in 2020 and has written two books about the newspaper business.
“The Last American Editor” is a collection of 83 of his columns that chronicles the events and people that make Hometown, USA so special. It was released last August. His second book, “The Last American Newspaper” will be released by McFarland Books is the coming months and is a memoir about the the great journalists and the work they did at the newspaper over the past two decades.
“Ken Tingley has written a testimonial to the journalists who worked with him on one small city newspaper, but it is also a love letter to every newspaper journalist at every newspaper in America,” said Diane Kennedy, president of the New York News Publishers Association. “In his book, we see the stories they cover through their eyes and feel the courage, determination, compassion and grief they share with the local people whose stories they tell. Above all, Ken used the newspaper’s voice to explore difficult and controversial stories through an ongoing, sometimes painful, conversation with its readers.”
Will Doolittle, the long-time projects editor for The Post-Star who retired earlier this year, will act as the moderator for the event. There will also be a question and answer session afterward.
The event will be the first for Crandall Library since the beginning of the pandemic.
“We are eager to host Ken’s talk as we launch into post-pandemic programming,” said Library Director Kathleen Naftaly. “Most of us at Crandall, like a majority of our community, grew up reading his articles. I look forward to hearing his perspectives on the future of newspapers and what that means for our community and frankly, the nation.”
The event will be held in the Christine L. McDonald Community Room at the library with doors opening at 5 p.m.
Tingley will be available to sign books after the event.
Hope to be there.
