May I suggest folks include in their emails that only one-word answers will be considered and that the results will be published here? Make it clear pages of gobbledygook will not be considered nor the words of so-called spokespeople. One word only: yes or no.
And do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day. Queensbury Town Board, Glens Falls Common Council. Your local supervisor. Include everyone!!!!
Voters need to keep in mind that this election term ends 12/31/26. Currently various political parties are interviewing candidates and making endorsements. It's happening fast. Get busy.
Just left a comment for the Saint Lawrence County Sheriff’s office. I suggested that there were other ways to train their officers rather than resorting to the Gestapo. Do what you can to stand up and speak out. Thank you Ken for your reporting.
First and foremost: David Brooks is an optimist. He is also a republican. I admire him... but we can't lose a moment of not admitting who he is and what has and is happening!
If Brooks was a realist (or even a pessimist) and not a republican (though many magAholes would call him a rino {{repubican in name only}}) he would not be so rosy.
º Renee Nicole Good was shot.. by an officer who ignored all protocol of a law enforcement officer. jonanthan ross shot an unarmed woman three times, creating a run away vehicle that could have killed others.
º in the nest several days the threat from DHS (department of homeland security) officers was 'have you not learned anything?' (MISSING the point they have not).
º Alex Prettie was held down on the ground (will mention his gun, not because he was using it or brandishing it, but because he WAS NOT)*
º A gun was grabbed and just thrown on a car seat (of course we don’t know if this is true or just more lies0
º Then at some spoken or unspoken signal, the DHS idiots stepped back and shot 10 times
º TEN TIMES
º DHS then dispersed, running like school boys when after throwing rocks a window was broken (not before one officer bum applauded)
º we are a fallen society if the murderers are not held accountable.
I know Brooks finds this reprehensible.. and yet he is cutting slack for an administration that has committed just about every crime one can against its own citizens and citizens of the world.
Not all law enforcement officers are murderers, but it is clear many.. .far too many find it not a big enough problem to say something
* it has been noted that kyle kkkrybaby rittenhouse openly cared a gun and killed two people and was commended in some evil circles of hell.
Then, as Orwellian as it gets DHS and the hmpy trmPEDOphile administration.. lead by ghoulie miller lied about it.
gestapOgreg bovino in an act of spineless shitification.. claimed his feelings were hurt because he was called names.. and give credence to some notion that it was okay to pepper spray, hit, tackle, beat

If you call DHS names.
That alone should have gestapOgreg behind bars.. and hopefully they have space for him in El Salvador.
Brooks, who said the Epstein story is a "stupid story"? He titled his column, "The Epstein Story? Count Me Out". Brooks never mentioned he had met Epstein in the past or attended a dinner where Epstein was present. Only after the documents were released by the Epstein Estate and photos were found was a statement made. In full transparency, perhaps he should have mentioned this in his column when dismissing the "stupid story".
I have never been a big fan. A Weekly Standard writer and supporter of the Iraq war (although much later changed his mind - I guess better late than never) I am extremely suspect of these “never trumper” republican /conservative types.
Nor do CONServatives seem concerned. Without looking at his voter registration, isn't Brooks actually a registered CONServative, or is he a conservative Repuklican? I suggest folks bone up on the CONServative Party birth, history and present-day operation. It's been taken over by special-interest groups and the GOP through the years and on all levels. The groups include anyone associated with law enforcement, their families, relatives, friends, family pets, et. al.
Brooks did respond that he did not know Epstein was at the dinner, never spoke to him, and did not know who he was until reading reports in 2018. He noted in a PBS interview that he did not have any contact with Epstein and that the photos show him with other guests.
I remember his comments at the tail end of the PBS Newshour "Brooks & Capehart" segment, and I believe he devoted one of his columns to the incident. I should note I'm not one of his regular readers. But in both those instances I wasn't convinced of his total ignorance of the matter.
I wrote to her: Please gather up whatever shreds of integrity that you still have and hold Trump and ICE accountable. Not because I expect her too, but somewhere maybe some flunky is tallying up the for and against letters.
I'd also suggest emailers write letters to the editor to all the newspapers in their circulation area to let the public know of their campaign and to encourage others to do same. Some of the newspapers may even allow folks to write guest essays on the matter if the letters' word limits are too low. Maybe Mark Frost will make it a weekly question in the Chronicle or the Post Star would do such a survey. OK, just thought we could all use a good laugh first thing on a Monday made worse by the continuing snowfall and low temps.
You can call Elise Stefanik's office at 202 225 4611 and verbalize the question as well. Select option 2 (live in the district) leave your zip code in the message, and if you wish your phone number. She won't call you back because she thinks she is too good for us, but I leave it anyway.
Rome carried on for over 400 years after Caligula’s 4 year reign.
We do not care about a Rome-style collapse. We care about a Caligula style leader in our here and now. And we are seeing the effects of a Caligula on the street and in our relations with the rest of the world.
In a so-called normal world, the shooters would have had their weapons taken away and put on administrative leave with an investigation to follow. All of a sudden this is not happening?
''What are we going t do about it?" In addition to your excellent suggestions, Mr. Tingley, economic pressure on the corporations enabling ICE might help, as well. Judd Legum, an outstanding investigative journalist who writes the Substack ''Popular Information'', identifies 3 specific enablers in his piece this morning: Amazon, Citizens Bank, and AT&T -- each of whom provides crucial technical support relied on by ICE. If enough people apply enough pressure, they will squeal, and maybe even change their policies. And this sort of economic pressure is something that Trump himself understands: it may be why he backed down on his Greenland threats for the time being. Here's the link to Legum's piece: https://popular.info/p/the-corporate-enablers-of-the-ice?r=7eyxi
There will be a protest outside of Citizens Bank in Queensbury this coming Saturday, Jan 31st from 11 to 12pm. If enough of us get out and protest, we will be able to make a difference just like we did with Avelo Airlines and Spotify. We are looking to coordinate efforts throughout the Capital Region.
Our quickly put together action at Target with Blue Line Indivisible was a dry run for things to come. We need to change up our tactics and have a way to reach more people in our region. Many people still are not aware of Indivisible and we need to grow. The next No Kings 3 is coming soon. Can you help get the word out? Tell 5 or 10 different people, encourage them to come out.
Thank you for your service to our nation, Ms Rountree (and all who stand up)! This sort of action is effective, especially once it hits a critical level. Corporations are much more sensitive to this sort of pressure than politicians, though even politicians only ignore it at their peril. Beyond protesting, moving accounts from Citizens Bank to better institutions is important (the activist group for older folks, Third Act, has a list and info on how to do that). Boycotts are very effective! And Amazon is not yet the only store in town, so to speak.
I'm still a proponent of all local, statewide and national strikes (as successfully carried out in other countries) involving people, businesses (of every size), retailers/wholesalers, etc... Just imagine how it would piss off MAGAts if their favorite WalMart wasn't open!!! LOL. And, yes, WalMart has a stake in this because they have to pass down higher prices to customers because of Diaper Donny's crybaby tariffs -- with more threatened and to come. Many Minneapolis businesses closed for the day Jan. 23. BTW, if all these professional sports leagues/teams/players are so gung-ho about racial justice, equality, "end racism," etc... they should join the strikes rather than pay lip service. And their "commissioners" and team owners should boycott any more White House appearances where they genuflect before the Orange God.
All important suggestions that are in Ken's column today and then you can put the app "5 Calls" on your phone that supplies numbers and emails to state and national officials. Urge them not to fund ICE in upcoming appropriations bills. It would seem timely to get Gendebein and Hewitt's comments on St. Lawrence County partnership with ICE collaboration...anyone in touch with those potential district 21 candidates?
Lisa, at one point Gendebein said he supported ICE and claimed he had friends who work with them. There is video of this interaction on his fb campaign page as one of my friends posted it there.
It was taken down but she put it back up and after complaining about censorship it was left up.
This second shooting he made a stronger statement.
Hewitt is against ICE and spoke about it at a protest and a town hall.
That’s Border Patrol that belongs on the borders, but ICE certainly does not belong anywhere doing what they’re doing now. And they’re going to keep doing it until Americans who truly are allegiant to the Republic stop them!
People in St Lawrence county, and everywhere, should be aware that DHS/ICE train with Israeli police and IDF on many of the abhorrent tactics we have seen taking place in Gaza and the West Bank and those tactics, training, and technologies are showing up on our streets. For example, in cases where ICE takes a picture of a protester on the street and/or their car and then show up at the person’s house as a form of intimidation.
That is the sort of training we don’t want our local police to be exposed to.
Israel is the biggest killer of journalists in the world. Israel kills peaceful American citizens. And, of course, they kill in both targeted and indiscriminate actions on a massive scale and loot the property of an entire people.
That isn’t the type of training American officers should be getting.
I can’t vouch for this particular site, but there has been a lot of reporting on the ties between US law enforcement and Israel. In the concluding paragraph from this story from 8/28/25 this sentence rings true: “The most extreme forms of rights violations conducted by Israeli forces against Palestinians are but a harbinger of what is to come elsewhere.”
I am appalled that federal agents, paid by our tax dollars, have shot and killed Americans in Minneapolis. To me, these actions are murders, pure and simple.
I subscribe to Paul Krugman, noted economist, formerly a columnist with the NY Times, who now can write a substack newsletter free of the editorial constraints he dealt with during his employment.
I hope that you are paying attention to the fact-based reporting on these events. They clearly describe the erosion of the rule of law that we, as mature adults, grew up with. (I think I'm ahead of you -- I was born in 1949.)
In the following commentary by Paul Krugman, one paragraph stands out:
The NRA and other gun groups are now calling for a full investigation of Pretti’s murder, angry that the DHS justifies the execution of Pretti because he was, entirely legally, in possession of a gun. Even Fox News’ s Maria Bartiromo, a tireless Trump cheerleader, sounded patently skeptical when questioning Kash Patel about DHS’s outlandish claims.
Can you call for an independent investigation, by local and state law enforcement, not the federal government? After all, federal agents are implicated, and one could hardly expect the federal government to conduct an impartial investigation, showing neither fear nor favor.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Stromberg, Round Lake, 518-791-9708
Here's a link to Krugman's newsletter that I included in my email:
Dan Stec is no longer my senator, but here is a copy of the letter I just sent to Jake Ashby, who is. He seems to be a decent person. I’m hoping it does some good.
Dear Senator Ashby,
I’m writing to you, even though I know as a state senator you have very little to do with the actions of the Federal government. But the silence I hear from Republicans and my Representative, Elise Stefanik, about the horrific atrocities ICE is perpetrating on both immigrants and American citizens is deafening. I don’t expect better from her, actually, because she threw her integrity away years ago as far as I’m concerned. I feel the same about anyone, Republican or Democrat, that has failed to rein in the Trump administration’s trampling of the Constitution and to hold them accountable.
I believe you have integrity and you took the same oath my husband did in the military, to protect and defend the Constitution. It needs you now. It has to start somewhere. Let it start with you. Speak out about the truth. Your bravery could give cover to those with less courage. But this madness has to stop. Please!
We must witness, testify and resist. We must rally others. We must never be silent. We must never be complicit. We must stand. All of us.
Dismayed, appalled and heartbroken. Emailed Stec, Simpson, Geraghty, and Stefanik.
