Will Doolittle and I have been debating for months whether we should start charging for The Front Page.
We believed we had a quality product that was filling a void in the community. But on the other hand, we did not want to deter the growth of the newsletter by putting the work behind a paywall. We didn’t want to write for just an elite few.
So we decided on a hybrid business model that kept our product free, but offered passionate readers a way to support our work monetarily.
That experiment began Monday.
More than 100 of you chose to make your subscription paid. We are both humbled and greatly encouraged by that endorsement of our work. While neither of us are businessmen, we’re hoping we stumbled onto a business model that will serve the community in these difficult times while also providing us some compensation for our efforts. As I wrote on Monday, this is an important year. We all need to stay informed.
We urge you to spread the word about The Front Page. For those of you who want to support us further, you can sign up for a $5 monthly subscription or a $50 yearly subscription by clicking on the button below.
While most of you who made pledges as long as a year ago, completed that process, there were 30 or so pledges where the payments failed. Some may have been old credit card numbers. Some of you may not have recognized a new charge - The Front Page Substack - and stopped the payment. Or you may have thought you previously paid for that pledge. Actually, Monday was the first day that we accepted payments.
We’re hoping we can continue to grow The Front Page and grow it further with your help.
Check out some of the nice comments below that we received on Monday.
Just ponyed up. Please keep on the Stefanik. You’ve started a drum beat, at least with me.
Just do the right things in your daily life, and you will be happy, successful and loved!!! Ken and Will will support you, as will many other folks. We'll all be better for it, especially the younger generations.
