"Why is she (are they) in public service?

What has she(they)done to make the lives of constituents better?" Both questions that I have been asking myself regarding the entire Republician Party. Elise stands for Elise. The Republican Party's vote in the health care debate "proposed two rules today banning the use of Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program funds to subsidize sex-rejecting medical interventions for minors and prohibiting hospitals participating in Medicare and Medicaid from performing them. " Indicative of the past ten years, one more in a list of kick 'em when they're down moves that seems to tickle the misery porn button they seem to become more addicted to by the day. It is not about governing, it's not about civil service or the best for the nation. Belegerence is the ticket, lying just a means to an end, but, what end? Good read today Ken, but again, wtf?

"Elise Stefanik’s legacy will not be about her public service but her political power and how she lost it."

Stefanik is currently 19 points behind Hochul in the gubernatorial race, according to the latest Siena Research Institute poll. Perhaps one reason for this is that voters are looking at Stefanik and seeing who she really is.

I hope that is part of a larger question about what does the Republican Party stand for today.

Apropos "Military Hunger", Catherine Rampell (formerly Washington Post, now Bulwark, economics commentator) pointed this out in her post yesterday: " Turns out Trump’s $1,776 “bonus” for military service members—the one he announced during his White House speech last night—is not actually a bonus. He’s just repurposing funds Congress had appropriated to subsidize service members’ housing alliances. So robbing Peter to pay Paul, except here Peter and Paul are the same person." Generous of him!

Here's a headline to a rather comical opinion piece that deals with Diaper Donny's speech (?) full of lies (why do people and reporters call them falsehoods???). Full disclosure: I can't stomach listening to or watching any of his illiterate diatribes, so I read summaries from credible sources. Seinfeld TV show lovers will understand this, but his voice/sour puss is comparable to Kramer going into convulsions when hearing entertainment reporter Mary Hart's voice on TV. So I avoid him for my own health.

Stefanik has a history of supporting and endorsing pedophiles, anti semites, racists and felons.

Trump, George Santos and Carl Palidino are just a few who come to mind.

Her calling Mike Johnson a habitual liar shows a supreme lack of self awareness.

I question her judgement, her morals and her ethics.

And I have always questioned her loyalty to the people she serves and to the US Constitution.

And every single person who identifies as a proud Republican is guilty of everything you just pointed out. Precious Betty Little is just as guilty. Let us not forget that for years in the Senate, Betty protected the pedophiles of her catholic church.

Ken Tingley's avatar

Yes, Betty was late to the game on supporting Child Victims Act, but I think she at least had the best interest in constituents at heart. Her ambition did not reach beyond the state Senate. That said, I agree with you about every other Republican from Supervisor to Town Board to dog catcher. They need to speak out about what their party stands for.

Every politician across America, regardless of political party, protected the Catholic Church in exchange for that precious Catholic vote. And most of today's politicians continue their support, despite the centuries of proven criminality, immorality, lack of ethics, etc... And in StefaniQ's case, that blind religious support for voters extends to people and politicians of the Jewish faith in America and Israel who tell her how high to jump. What other reason can there be for treasonous StefaniQ to accuse all her real/imaginary opponents of antisemitism? It's all about the votes.

Guv is brave to sign MAID into law. Bottom line, will allow terminally ill a medical option to end their devastating pain and suffering.

While this new law may not meet all the demands from activists, it is a valiant start in recognizing that the Catholic church’s hypocrisy in condemning terminal patients to painful deaths, while covering up the the death of innocence in youths abused by pedophile priests, is a crime against humanity.

“Offering it up for the souls in Purgatory” was a mantra drilled into most of us recovering Catholics in our early childhoods. . But watching my father die here in GF in intractable pain and spiritual suffering in 1972, from metastatic cancer, with only oral Percocet, taught me that no God would approve of that message. In my Dad’s last hours in the hospital ER, Doc Depan ordered IV Morphine, which eased my father into eternal life. I will always be grateful for his merciful decision. They had both been WW2 veterans…and I was told my Dad lifted his arm in a salute to Dr. Depan before he took his last breaths.

Amen.

Well said. It's depressing to think of the many people who have suffered and continue to suffer because NYS politicians catered to the Catholic Church and other religious groups in exchange for campaign donations and votes. After all this time, NYS could have had the proper legislation in place if our leaders simply studied similar laws in European countries and the states here that adopted the laws long ago.

I wish your column today, chronicling Stefanik’s betrayal of NY state, and every state, could be published in the Albany Times Union and every other major city newspaper across our country.

Her failure to focus on critical safety issues, such as establishing cell service in our rural areas, which might have saved the life of our Town of Queensbury Ward 2 representative, is nothing short of criminal. She has had the corporate connections and $$$$ backing to have achieved that essential service to small and large businesses in the North country, as well as our elderly and disabled residents, throughout her 10 yr. tenure of turning away from the needs of her district’s residents. Yet she continues to feed the ego of the sexual deviant who abuses human rights of children, and Americans of all ages.

While military families need food stamps to feed their children at Fort Drum…one of Stefanik’s favorite photo-op sites.

Every time you write something about the disaster called "Elsie Stefanik" I just laugh now. She's BEYOND redemption, as a public servant, AND a politician. I can't wait for Hochul to bury her with this information and many many other events that undermine the residents of New York. And, I'm so glad she's being primaried, even if we don't know who he/she is..hahahahaha

So PROUD of Kathy Hochul for signing the "Aid in dying legislation". It will serve her very well in this election year. Unfortunately, the bill has been sitting unsigned on her desk since the prior legislative session. Now it has to go back to the state Legislature in its new session starting in January to ensure the Assembly and Senate will go along with her changes. Even if she signs it sometime next year, I believe there's another 90-day wait before it hits the books. It's known as kicking the can down the road.

Oh, but to have been a fly on the wall (with a tape recorder) of the hearing room the other day when Jack Smith testified in private to some derelict House committee run by MAGA Repuklicans. I'll bet he handed their asses to them. Smith actually wanted to testify in public but the Repuklicans, shaking in their boots at that thought, insisted on a private "chat." Someone should pass along Smith's entire opening statement to the media; it was probably the only factual evidence presented all day.
