By Ken Tingley
Let’s start this discussion with this one incontrovertible fact.
Congressional leadership, including the speaker of the House, are not responsible for security at the U.S. Capitol. The Capitol Police are overseen by the architect of the Capitol, the House and Senate sergeants at arms and committees from both the House and Senate.
Alex Gault of the Watertown Times reported that in The Post-Star Wednesday.
Now let’s hear the words Rep. Elise Stefanik said on national television Tuesday:
“The American people deserve to know the truth, that Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility as the Speaker of the House for the tragedy that occurred on January 6.” That’s what Stefanik said in a press conference outside the Capitol Tuesday morning.
I am embarrassed to have her represent our congressional district.
That’s like blaming Jackie Kennedy for the Kennedy assassination.
Or the captain of the Arizona for Pearl Harbor.
Or the sailor in the crow’s nest for the sinking of the Titanic. He died, by the way.
In the extremes of partisan ridiculousness, Rep. Elise Stefanik may have set a new standard on Tuesday. She is a bottom feeder.
As I recall, it was Pelosi’s office that was ransacked as rioters screamed for her scalp.
Each new tape shows a new level of violence.
The 1/6 commission needs to find out if this was an organized effort.
It needs to find out why the National Guard did not arrive for hours.
It needs to find out why the Capitol Police did not have the proper equipment.
It needs to follow the evidence where ever it might lead.
By trying to make this a political argument, Rep. Stefanik has become an embarrassment to her district, to her oath of office and her American citizenship. It is an attempt to obstruct justice for her own benefit.
She has forfeited any credibility in my mind.
Her ambition has led her to a dark place where she no longer cares about North Country residents or their problems. Does she really even care about our country?
She is an opportunist.
She sees the nightmare that Capitol police officers endured on 1/6 as an opportunity to benefit herself personally and politically.
She should never be forgiven for that.
Another review
It was nice to hear from Konrad Marshall this week. Konrad, another of our former Post-Star reporters, was instrumental in the domestic violence series we did years ago. It has been one of the unexpected benefits with promoting my collection of columns. I have had the chance to connect with old colleagues and see what they are doing today.
Now a big-deal reporter in Australia, Konrad had this to say about my new collection of columns:
"When I started working for Ken Tingley at The Post Star, I knew he had already been a sports editor. And somewhere along the way - in my five years at that daily paper in Glens Falls, NY - I remember him conveying a lesson learned in his working life. He said that in most newsrooms, sports writers made the best writers. Having started as a village beat writer myself, I chafed at that idea at first, until Ken explained why. He said sports writers are keenly attuned to wins and losses, to struggles and triumphs, to sacrifice and skill and all things dramatic. His point was that if you want to get to the bottom of any tale, and sell that narrative as a storyteller should, then sport was the ideal training ground. And so it proved. After a lengthy career writing about football stars and track athletes, Ken turned his editing gaze to local politics, and commerce, and health and law. For years and years, he encouraged his writers to tell stories about the ordinary people that formed his community, and the issues that affected them. As I see it, that's what this compendium of columns is about: Everyday life in small town America, through the losses and wins that tear us down and lift us up."

Sedition Stefanik is nothing more than a bottom feeder opportunist. She has made a diabolical calculation that supporting the former President will advance her personal agenda. She does not represent the people of NY 21 and never did. Self interest is this abhorrent representative’s concern.
This is an excellent piece as it captures the Congresswomen’s lack of character and clear factual misrepresentations to her constituents and the American people.
