Perhaps, Rep. Elise Stefanik was inspired by one of her constituents.
For years, there has been a dirty T-shirt store on Canada Street in Glens Falls. From time to time, depending on what is being displayed in the window of their store, it has been controversial.
I’ve written about it from time to time over the years and criticized the owners for a product that is simply in bad taste. Lake George Mayor Robert Blais urged the business in the past to tone it down with little affect.
The business has responded to complaints and criticism by saying it is her First Amendment right of free speech. Right now, it has tasks decorated with a middle finger.
Rep. Elise Stefanik has recently responded with her own business model by expanding her online store to include “Impeach Cuomo” mugs, T-shirts and posters.
I guess everybody has to make a buck.
There was a time when a representative of Congress was held in high regard and respected. That time has passed.
It was encouraging to see The Post-Star editorial Thursday that characterized her recent merchandising as “embarrassing herself.”
The intent of the editorial was not to defend Gov. Cuomo, but to show how far Rep. Stefanik has strayed for her mission of working for constituents of the 21st Congressional District.
“Mean-spirited attacks seem to be what she (Stefanik) like best about politics, and her behavior demeans the office she holds,” the editorial concluded.
She originally ran on a platform that she would be bipartisan and work with people on both side of the aisle.
Now, she sells T-shirts.
Perhaps, when she is done with politics, she will open a store in Lake George.
Tournament Week
For the second straight year there will be no state basketball tournament in Glens Falls this March.
What is so sad is that the New York State Public High School Athletic Association was returning the big tournament to Glens Falls. The first two years have been canceled.

NCAA under way
Syracuse, an 11th seed, will be playing a first-round game late Friday night against fifth-seeded San Diego State. While Syracuse is technically the underdog, San Diego State is from a midsized conference (Mountain West), so you never know how good the competition will be.
Joe Girard III also makes his NCAA debut tonight. Hard to know what to expect from San Diego State, but Syracuse has been playing well lately and should have beat Virginia in ACC Tournament.
Syracuse is not the only New York college in the tournament either. Just down the road, little Colgate has also secured a berth. I’ve been told by one Colgate alumnus that the team is pretty darn good.
Vaccine at mall
Someone smart finally convinced the feds that Gurney Lane was not the best site for a mass vaccination center.
Both the north-bound and south-bound exits have problems. Add in the convergence of Route 149 there, it was just going to lead to all kinds of traffic problems.
Securing the site at the mall is a much better idea where there is plenty of room to line up and park cars.
The lights were on in the former Sears store on Thursday with several government cars parked outside.
Quote of the Day
“We no longer believe Stefanik entered public life to accomplish good things for the country. She has exhibited a pattern of lying and hyper-partisanship that undermines democracy.”
