“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” - Harry S. Truman

And here we are.

And then...on to resistence!

Time for a national boycott of CBS by viewers and advertisers to hit the scum where it hurts so it's in place when the new fall season rolls around. It's not just 60 Minutes, the entire network is owned by a true America hater (I won't say his name) and Diaper Donny acolyte. I wonder how many times his name is mentioned in the Epstein files.?!

Less than 8% of Republican voters turned out for the GOP run-off vote in Texas. About 7.4%.

Paxton got 885,949 votes, Cornyn’s 501,725. That’s 1,387,674 votes.

That was something more than half the 2.2 million Republican voters in the March primary.

About 2.3 million Democrats voted in March. Yes, more Democrats voted than Republicans in the Texas primary. And despite more than $120 million spent on the primary runoff election only 7.4% of voters turned out - or maybe because of the spending.

Primaries are notoriously fickle and do not represent the wider views of the general public, but clearly there is a difference in engagement between R and D voters in Texas.

Thank you Mike, this is great info.

I hope it's not too late, but I'd love to see disaffected Repuglicans like Cornyn, Massie, et. al. join the November midterms as write-in, independent and/or minor party nominees for their seats so they split the vote and hand Dems/independents victories. It's one way of getting around the illegal gerrymandering that has shamelessly happened at Diaper Donny's directive. Achtung! And state election officials should ignore any illegal rulings from the disgraced SCROTUM, formerly SCOTUS.

Mary Ellen Collins's avatar

WOW! I wondered how Paxton won the republican primary in Texas....ONLY 8% of registered Republican voters voted in tis election???? OMG! Republicans DESERVE to lose BIG TIME in Texas.

CBS is being boycotted around the Country....Bari Weiss will go down in flames when stockholders cannot ignore the loss in ratings and revenue. My hope is that the new ownership comes under scrutiny once the Dems take over Congress.

Unless that is the goal - to kill 60 MInutes.

The sad thing is newspapers are barely hanging on. Now the networks are being gutted by Trump allies. Thank God for independent media.

As former network reporters join indie media and still make a difference it shows that that's the place to be. The growth is good to see. It's one of a few promising trends in the world of news.

Ken Tingley's avatar

They may be hanging on, but I bet most are making a healthy profit.

Sean's avatar

That interesting. I am not at all versed in the finances of these paper tigers. I actually thought there was no money left after the market loses to the internet.

So I'm just going to ask you. How the heck does that work?

Ken Tingley's avatar

Individual community newspapers are still making money.? Unfortunately, corporate owners are drowning in debt.

I can’t boycott my CBS “Young and the Restless” and “Bold and the Beautiful” soap episodes as my 98 yr. old neighbor and I rely upon them for our daily cognitive function tests - to compare our short term memory of scenes that just happened - as well as long term memories of episodes and characters from 30 to 40 years ago! 🧐 😄 🤗

General Hospital is my vice of choice. Is ABC still living up to the A in its name?

Talk about retribution. The State of New York maintains a 400 acre state park in Westchester and Putnam counties in honor of Trump, the Donald J. Trump New York State Park, as proudly proclaimed on Taconic Parkway highway signs. The park was fraudulently foisted upon the state, illegally created and it exists in violation of the New York state Constitution. It is an insult to the moral integrity of the people of the State of New York and the enduring symbol of Trump's immorality, venality and corruption. No New Yorker will ever be able to escape the retribution of his memory.

But James Talarico might be a vegan. 🙄

Anthony Constantino yammers about “fighting corruption” in all the YouTube ads I’m forced to watch. He should be asked at every opportunity if that includes Trump corruption.

Dominic Tom's avatar

Tony Baloney is all in on supporting Diaper Donny's corruption. Except he calls it patriotism. Stumbled on a Channel 6 debate Thursday evening between Baloney and Smullen and immediately changed the station because I was preparing to have dinner. Their stink was coming right through the TV screen.

Kevin Robbins's avatar

“I do think this is a very simple choice in the Republican primary,” Constantino said. “You have a choice between a career politician who’s looking to profit off of people”

Yes, I just see this from the debate. He’s giving the line as Trump that he’s so rich he doesn’t need anyone’s money. Trump said that and he’s had his hand out for donations from the cult and bribes from the rich ever since. I’m sure Tony will be just as much of a grifter. It’s the Republican way.

Too bad Smullen couldn’t say any of that because he’s busy doing the “No, I love Trump more” shtick.

Congratulations Ken on your Broadway debut! Hoping this booking reflects not only your considerable talents but a salute to local journalism. In this dreadful era of “truthiness” and low information we never needed trusted, close-to-home news reporting more. It’s hard to find the New York Times in Lake Luzerne but there are piles of Post Stars at Stewart’s.

Thank You. Hope this will fine tune the script for the three-week run in Albany this fall.

Is it feasible to give Texas back to Mexico? If yes, set up border checkpoints to accept real Americans into the remaining 49 and turn back everyone else. Then, build a new southern border wall. Rinse and repeat with other mostly southern states, especially Florida.

Putting on my preacher’s hat, I would commend to my Christian friends, who are also supporters of the Retribution President, a sermon by German martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer, based on Romans 12:17-21, preached on January 23, 1938: “Christ’s Love and Our Enemies.”

Alfonsi and everyone fired from 60 Minutes over the past couple days (top producers, another correspondent whose name escapes me) should count their blessings to get away from CBS (Crap Broadcasting Sycophants). Even the ubiquitous Anderson Cooper ran away from the major disaster. I am puzzled how Alfonsi is still on the CBS payroll if her contract ran out. She and her mates should be free agents and be gobbled up by the few respectable media outlets that provide national and international exposure. Many of the other on-air and behind-the-scenes professionals at 60 Minutes are fed up and are probably headed for the door -- one way or the other.

The Carters were a wonderful couple!

Congratulations on the NYC reading of “The Last American Newspaper,” and also the selection of your son, Joseph, as a History Leadership Institute Fellow by the American Association of State and Local History (one of 19 Fellows nationally).

Thank you and thank you Don.

My own brief summary and reading of Bonhoeffer’s sermon and Paul’s text:

Leave any thought of retribution to God, and “so far as it depends on you, live peaceably wit all.”

Not surprising since Paxton was endorsed by a crook. He recently gave a sweetheart plea deal to release a pedophile. Not surprising since the crook who endorsed him is also a pedophile.

In some countries, the attorney general is actually an independent office not appointed by the head of government. They are responsible for the justice and prosecutions part. Justice minister (or some other title) is a separate office focused more on policy.

Here's a good start to putting a dent in traitor Jeff Bezos' wallet and ego. Unfortunately, the cretin will make up for the monetary and prestige loss by firing more Washington Post and Amazon employees. Maybe he and CBS brass would like to go up on the next "flight" as a show of support???

There was a good piece by The Bulwark discussing the demise of 60 Minutes. That Ellison guy - billionaire son of Larry Ellison (forgot his name) was simply appeasing Trump by hiring the revolting and hypocritical Bari Weiss to run CBS and 60 Minutes into the ground by making both properties sock puppets for Trump.

The loss of revenue - millions - will be offset many times over by the favors Trump will throw Ellisons way. For example Trump’s FCC would not approve Netflix purchasing Warner Bros Discovery while allowing Ellison to scoop it up in a deal worth billions.

This kind of BS is why we should all be more supportive of independent journalists like those at The Front Page and The Bulwark to defy the oligarchal news media and their lack of journalistic integrity.
