Hey Stefanik, how about just one solution

Rep. Elise Stefanik is our sole representative in the House of Representatives.
She is all we’ve got.
She is our link to Washington, D.C. and the federal government to help solve problems from Watertown to Washington County.
Even the most powerful congressperson is just one of 435 so even her power is limited. She should be prudent in using her political capital to make sure it benefits all of us.
This week I read she has proposed legislation to protect college fraternities and sororities from being forced to admit members of the opposite sex into their organizations.
This is what happens when you elect someone from a private school.
This is what you get when you depend on someone from an elite Ivy League school to look out for the best interests of a mostly working class electorate.
I suppose I don’t understand the importance of this issue.
I went to a state school in Kentucky because it cost less than the state school in my home state. I did not pledge to a fraternity. I was too busy working 40 hours a week on the school newspaper.
From my seat, fraternities and sororities were for people who didn’t know what to do with their time. They were for the rich kids. They were for the party people.
I wonder how many of Elise Stefanik’s constituents went to college and pledged to a fraternity or sorority. And I really wonder how many have been losing sleep over the rights of sororities and fraternities.
One of those college that wanted to open up membership in fraternities and sororities was her alma mater - Harvard - which previously kicked her off an advisory committee for her political shenanigans.
Perhaps, this is retribution.
Maybe, it is just a coincidence.
Rep. Paul J. Tonko, who may or may not become our next congressional representative after redistricting, said that the legislation was a solution in search of a problem. In other words, a waste of time.
How our elected representative spends her time should be something we all care about. If we don’t like the way she spends her time, she should be fired.
Rep. Elise Stefanik seems to know what the problems are facing our country. She regularly attacks Democrats on social media about their failures to solve them. It is their fault that we have inflation, a continuing pandemic, worker shortages, supply-chain problems, expensive health care and a broken immigration system. Yet, it wasn’t that long ago that Republicans had complete control to solve those problems. Instead, they gave corporations a tax cut.
During these social media attacks, we never hear what the solution might be to any of these complicated issues.
We never hear what she would do.
If she has ideas, let’s hear them. Let’s have a policy debate about correct solutions. It wasn’t too long ago that Rep. Stefanik voted to repeal Obamacare without a substitute. She said a solution was coming. We are still waiting.
Last week, Rep. Stefanik tweeted out a message acknowledging “Military Spouse Appreciation Day.” She thanked the nation’s military spouses for their dedication and sacrifice for our nation. That is nice, but it doesn’t really address some of the most significant problems they face.
Sexual assault continues to run rampant in the military and Rep. Stefanik has taken the stance that these cases should stay within the military chain of command instead of a civilian court. What happens is that commanders accused of sexual harassment and assault often handle those cases and decide whether they should be prosecuted.
Military suicides also continue to soar. In a recent update I did on a local soldier who was in Afghanistan, he told me that he had lost more of his friends since they came home than when they were in Afghanistan.
I’m sure the widows of those men were happy to get Rep. Stefanik’s message last week that she appreciates them.
What is perhaps most frustrating about our current state of politics is the lack of initiative by both sides to compromise for the greater good. Republicans seem especially brutal while conducting the political war that is one attack after another. Criticizing the other side is fine, but let’s hear about a few solutions.
Heck, let’s hear just one solution.
Until then, we can be assured that Rep. Stefanik is fighting for the greater good of college fraternities and sororities.
Overdose deaths
Overdose deaths rose another 15 percent in 2021 to 108,000. That’s not as bad as when it rose 30 percent in 2020, but still not good.
The deaths are largely tied to fentanyl which rose from 58,000 to 71,0000.
Sacker family
On another front. If you have followed the saga of the Sackler family - makers and marketers of Oxycontin even after they knew it was addictive - the family continues to pay for its misdeeds at least reputation-wise.
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York quietly removed the family’s name from its education center.
The National Gallery in London also ended its relationship with the Sacklers as it removed the Sackler name from one of its galleries.
Five months earlier the Metropolitan Museum of Art removed the Sackler name from one of its most popular exhibitions - the Temple of Dendur and six other exhibition spaces.
Sorry, but I don’t think it is enough.
Sadistic Seditious StefaniQ never seems to DO any thing but screech about how terrible Democrats (in particular Joe Biden) are. She has NEVER proposed ANY solutions, she just fastens her bull dog teeth into meaningless **issues** such as the Battle Of Chocolate Milk Hill, which she seems willing to die on. She picks up **causes** that her clueless interns post memes about for days only to have them vanish when the new shiny criticism comes along.
This week she is all about FORCED BIRTH and how those unborn are sooooo precious, while actual BORN CHILDREN should be STARVED because they dared to be born brown and farther South than Elsie is comfy with. She wants us to believe that Joe Biden runs a secret baby formula factory & controls the worlds supply-- no doubt it is in the basement of Comet Ping Pong Pizza, must be crowded down there.
It also must be comforting to her to be given all that yummy corporate welfare--- errrr, donations--- from such sponsors as the NRA-- She supports school shooters, don't forget!!- and how much DOES she rake in from drug companies (while sentencing us diabetics to die for lack of affordable insulin!)-- and how much from the likes of ABBOTT, the ACTUAL maker of formula who HID contamination for YEARS, as those babies sickened and died? But Elsie doesn't care, they were pre school, not pre birth, and they should pull themselves up by their baby bootiestraps and get a job and stop being freeloaders, taking money out of HER capacious pockets.
That's our Elsie, always on the wrong side of the issues, and the hateful side of every topic.
November is coming. Vote like your life depended on it, because it does.
I keep thinking I should call her office to say what I DON"T like about what she's doing or ask her to vote for a specific proposal I'm interested in....but I have given up. She is just not worth my time and effort because her mind is so completely closed to common sense and only hears what Trump says and swallows it in the name of money and power. UGH!!!
